Handling Precautions

  1. Storage: Store electrodes in a dry, sealed container to prevent moisture absorption and degradation.
  2. Surface cleaning:Clean the workpieces thoroughly before welding and perform post-weld cleaning to remove slags

Aluminil Si12 is our special coated electrode developed for welding all types of aluminium castings and applications where good colour matching with base materials is important. Typical applications include repair welding, surfacing and construction welding: window frames, aluminium tubes, furniture, aluminium castings, engine blocks, and automotive parts. The electrode has a pure white coating specifically designed to reduce moisture pick-up. For thicker plate materials (≥15 mm) it is recommended to preheat at 150°C to 250°C before welding.

Aluminium 10/12% silicon type electrode for welding wrought and cast aluminium alloys of similar composition. Rapid deposition rate, good penetration characteristics, excellent stability, weldability and slag control. The special chemically active mineral coating enables easy removal of surface oxides during welding ensuring results of high quality. Suitable for slag over slag welding. Welding wrought alloys N4, H9, H10, H20, H30 and cast alloys LM6, LM8, LM9, LM13 and LM20. Used extensively for repair of casting defects such as surface voids where slag over slag techniques may be employed.

Al 12 Si an aluminum 12% silicon stick electrode for the fabrication and repair of aluminum silicon alloys.

  1. DESCRIPTION:

PHIL-AL 12 offers the highest strength and is particularly suited to the repair and reclamation of alloy casting defects. The special flux coating provides good arc stability and slag fluidity and ensures the removal of surface oxide during welding operation.

III. NOTES ON USAGE:

Depending upon base metal thickness and mass preheating in the range 100 -300°C will be necessary. Particular attention should be paid to the joint region which must be free from any contamination. PHIL-AL 12 Si electrode should be preferably welded in the downhand position to avoid “burn through” and excessive spattering, the electrode should be held perpendicular to the workpiece and a short arc length maintained. Electrode diameter should be roughly equivalent to plate thickness. In order to obtain corrosion resisting joints, slag residues must be reoved by washing the joint in warm water. Since the coating of PHIL- AL 12 Si is hygroscopic, electrodes must be stored in a dry place. Use dry electrodes only!

Wipweld AI electrodes are aluminum-cored electrodes for use only with DC welding machines in welding aluminum and its alloys. Wipweld AI electrodes allow the easy maintenance of required arc length because the tip can be kept in contact with the work. Strength and ductility of the weld metal are excellent and resistant equal to that of the base metal. Fast welding speed, attainable with the electrode, reduces distortion to the minimum. Slag is light. Two types of Wipweld AI electrodes are available which differ in silicon content of the weld deposit.

Applications and Directions

For welding aluminum-silicon alloys (Silumin)

Use DC reverse polarity (DC+) only. For heavy aluminum pieces, preheat to 300-390 degrees Fahrenheit. If the workpiece is not sufficiently preheated, the electrode will stick to the workpiece. It is preferable to weld in a flat position maintaining the electrode vertical and the arc short. Apply stringer beads. Remove the slag by brushing in hot water and rinsing

Special coated electrode for aluminium-silicon and aluminium-magnesium-silicon castings. Suitable to use also in aluminium castings, containing up to 12% silicon. Used with DCEP. Hold the electrode perpendicularly to workpiece, with a short arc length, during welding. If the thickness is greater than 10 mm or in large workpieces, preheating shall be applied between 150°C to 250°C. Since slag residues are corrosive, they must be completely removed from the weld bead. Electrode serves well as consumable in oxyacetylene welding. The covering being hygroscopic, electrodes must be stored in an absolutely dry location, or redried if required.
